About TGI Friday
TGI Friday is a casual dining American restaurant chain founded in 1965. The term “TGI” is an acronym for Thank God It's and together the name of the restaurant is often announced as Thank God It's Friday. Over the years of its existence, the TV commercials and other advertisement streams have also twisted the phrase a bit and used it as Thank Goodness It's Friday. The restaurant serves alcoholic beverages primarily. However, they are also known for their low-carbohydrate and low-fat menu items to promote a healthy lifestyle. TGI Friday also offers gluten-free items on its menu for those with gluten intolerance.
Besides the cool name, TGI Friday also has an interesting background story of its origin. The founder of the restaurant Alan Stillman lived in a New York-based neighbourhood full of a young crowd, especially girls from the airline and fashion industry. He started the first TGI Friday restaurant in New York in the hope of meeting single women as there weren't any such public place for young men and women to meet. He invested $5000 on his own and borrowed another $5000 from his mother to buy a bar named The Good Tavern and renamed the premise to Thank God It's Friday, inspired from an expression during his time at Bucknell University.

Sexy Beast and the Spawn and I stopped for supper here recently. We were seated immediately. We waited about five minutes for someone to take our drink order. We waited about ten minutes for the drinks to be delivered. We placed our food order. Spawn A and I ordered the soup and salad bar. We were wise. While I was at the salad bar, the waitress informed the table that we would need to "slow down on the drinks". Apparently, she was not keen to refill the glasses very often. Spawn B and Sexy Beast ordered sandwiches with fries. Spawn B added the salad bar. The Spawn and I ate salads. Sexy Beast waited. Spawn A and I finished our meals. Sexy Beast and Spawn B waited. We sat there waiting for the sandwiches for over thirty minutes. When the waitress finally decided to check on us, she went on a tirade about the ineptitude of the kitchen staff and management and made sure that we understood just how upset she was on our behalf. She went on and on about how she would demand that our bill be adjusted. Ten minutes after this ridiculous display, the sandwiches arrived along with inedible (cold and greasy) fries. With a limp apology, the manager redacted the drinks (that were refilled grudgingly) from our bill. When we told her that the fries were inedible, she removed those as well. It didn't make up for the horrendous service.

This was probably the worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant! (not counting the times where I'm on the clock waiting tables, haha) Okay, where do I start.... it was like 5pm on a Wednesday so it was not busy. Our party was a total of six people. (all adults) It took us a while to be greeted and you could tell immediately that the server (Ashley) was inexperienced. I empathize with new servers, I mean, I have been there before! We get our sodas, and mine is not what I ordered. No big deal, I still drank it. It took a while, probably ten minutes, for her to take our order. (3 of the 6 had the same meal, and the other 3 ordered off the menu with no modifiers). We made it as easy as we could. About ten more minutes go by and she comes out to ask what one of us ordered. Eep, from my experience as a server, that means she probably didn't even have our order in yet!! We were out of drinks, one of us didn't have silverware, and there were no napkins. (other than the ones that the silverware were rolled in.) So, some more time passed.... and two of us got our food. (and this was before two side salads were supposed to come out first). Piece by piece, food was coming out to us. (still no refills, napkins, etc) The first two who got their food had completely finished their meals before the rest of us received our food! The server got what she thought was all the meals out... but one of the orders was still missing. (she just brought him a side salad...) Refills finally came out. Mine was right this time, but the others were wrong. The food itself was okay. (I had a patty melt) Luckily, my family had a great sense of humor about the whole thing because it was quite awful! The worst part was that the manager never once came over to our table to see if he/she could fix things for us. Management have to know that she is new and struggling. They should have been looking over her tables to make sure she was doing okay. (managers usually walk around no matter what, so I was quite surprised that we never saw a manager). There was no offer what so ever to make things right. The server did apologize a lot, but she really should have brought a manager over. I usually feel bad no tipping, but this time, I did not. This restaurant gave us a bad experience in every aspect. Thankfully, I was just visiting family from out of town and will not have to go to this place ever again.

We stopped in for the breakfast bar on Sunday. The french toast on the bar was decent but I had to stand around waiting for them to refill it. The donuts were stale, muffins were crumbling on the platter, sausage was burnt, etc. My boyfriend refers to their food as "airline food". Yuck. The best part of the meal was the diet vanilla coke but we had to leave without my go-cup because the waitress got in a 15+ minute long PG-13 conversation with the next table over and then never brought it.

I didn't expect much really. What threw me off really was that first of all it was raining like crazy and the wind was blowing ten different ways. I pull up to the drive thru window and there is a garbage can that had blown over (someone should have checked on that). Then the lady placing my order took FOREVER! I mean seriously, to effing long. I was pretty pissed about that. I got home to eat my greasy hamburger and I just don't get why so many people like this restaurant. I don't know about you but I don't like my hamburgers flattened to nothing and burnt to a crisp at the edges. On a good note the sweet potato fries were good.

Great service and extraordinarily average to poor quality breakfast buffet. The food that was actually ordered off of the menu looked much better. I'll definitely be taking that route next time.
